Crooked Lane Books is looking for an entrepreneurial, ambitious, and adaptive
marketing/publicity professional to join our team as we launch our new book club fiction imprint
Alcove Press. The position is best suited for candidates who look to solve problems and track
down opportunities through a hands-on and multidisciplinary approach. This is a unique position
that has immediate impact and provides the kind of professional growth that can’t be found
anywhere else in the industry.
Essential job responsibilities include:

  •  Create, execute, manage, track and analyze promotional plans and tasks for both seasonal
    lists and individual titles from acquisition through publication
  • Collaborate with all departments, including art, production, sales, and rights to achieve
    promotional goals
  •  Work closely with external sales team at Penguin Random House Publishers Services to
    provide guidance and support for sales efforts
  •  Maintain and grow publicity and advertising contacts and relationships
  •  Compile marketing budgets and sales estimates
  •  Advise authors on promotion, marketing, and brand development
  •  Draft sales, marketing, publicity, and other promotional copy
  •  Research opportunities and provide administrative support, including mailings, as necessary
  •  Interview, manage, and train marketing assistants and seasonal interns

The ideal candidate would have a B.A. or B.S., preferably in marketing and communications, as
well as 1-3 years experience in book publishing or a related field. Excellent Microsoft Office
computing skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) are necessary. Knowledge of Adobe Creative
Suite programs, online marketing tools, and digital analytics is a plus. Candidates must be
organized and detail-oriented entrepreneurs and must have the ability to monitor and support
multiple projects simultaneously. The candidate must be passionate about books and the
processes that deliver them to readers. The candidate should be ready to take independent
responsibility for projects immediately and be poised for rapid professional growth.
Crooked Lane Books is an independent publisher that strives to entertain the many readers of
commercial crime fiction. Alcove Press, Crooked Lane’s first new imprint, is dedicated to
publishing upmarket book club fiction. Its first titles will be published this September. Our
experienced team is responsive to readers’ interests and agile within the industry. We work with
